AMAZON PARROTS

at 4 wks

There are 27 remaining species of Amazons. Of those, 19 are listed as endangered. The loss of the wide range of food sources, area and habitat have them at the brink of total extinction. It is now illegal to import them.
Because they're so striking it's no coincidence that they appeal & fascinate anyone who sees a tame one.
My personal pet is a Yellow Nape Amazon. She is now 15 years old and will frequently show off for visitors.  If you would like to learn more about her click [Here].
Amazons bond quickly to their new owners and adapt very well to life in a family home & cage when purchased while young. Cages that have a play top design are great for this species. They need a lot of room for exercise & play. They're very intelligent and excel in their ability to talk, do tricks, sing and whistle a tune. [soon-vidLink-Deb]
These parrots love attention and need regular one-on-one periods out of the cage with their owner.
Varieties of safe toys and safe woods to chew on are always a welcomed addition to their cage.  Do not be alarmed if they chew up wooden parts of a safe toy  because it usually happens.  When this happens, just discard it and replace it with another.
Bath time is a must & a very welcome event.  You can mist them with spray bottles, have them shower with you or take them outside on a nice day (in their cage of course). Using a water hose that has a light spray or shower attachment becomes a wonderful play day for them & you.  Bathing is followed by much preening [Uhboo's Bath].
Remember this species falls into the "Large Parrot Category" and their life span can be up to 80 years if they are properly taken care of and have routine health checks by an Avian Veterinarian.
Amazons can be wonderful pets for many years of enjoyment with never a dull moment.

Basic Caution :: Children should always be supervised when interacting with any Large Parrot because it can be dangerous.
Never tease, taunt or poke at them, they consider these actions as an attack and are likely to become aggressive.
